Committees

An excellent way to get involved with SCLEOA is to serve on a committee. There are many standing committees on which you can serve. Below are the current standing committees, their purposes, and the committee chairs. To volunteer to serve on a committee, please contact the office at [email protected]

AWARDS AND COMMENDATIONS

Chairman: Director Jackie Swindler

The Awards Committee sets criteria for association awards, reviews awards applications, and selects awards recipients for the Santee Cooper Award of Excellence, the Alltel Crime Prevention Award, the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Citizen of the Year Award. The committee also reviews nominations for the Medal of Honor, Medal of Valor, and Medal of Duty.

BASS TOURNAMENTS

Chairman: Chris Mixon, Lexington County Sheriff's Department

The Bass Tournament Committee coordinates bass tournaments for the association.  Typically, the committee sponsors a law enforcement tournament in the spring of each year and an open tournament in the fall.

FINANCE

Chairman: Mike Nichols

GOLF TOURNAMENTS

Chairman: Major J.J. Jones, Lexington County Sheriff's Department

The Golf Tournaments Committee coordinates the Annual Golf Tournament, held each spring.

LEGAL REPRESENTATION

Chairman: Maj. Steve Smith, SLED (Retired)

The Legal Representation Committee maintains and updates the guidelines for legal representation and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.

LEGISLATIVE AND RETIREMENT

Chairman: Steve Birnie, University of South Carolina Division Law Enforcement and Safety

The Legislative and Retirement Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding SCLEOA advocacy, support and monitoring of legislation on law enforcement, public safety, benefits and retirement issues.

POLICE OLYMPICS AND POWERLIFTING

Chairman: Captain Teena Gooding, University of South Carolina Div. of Law Enforcement and Safety

The Olympics and Powerlifting Committee coordinates and hosts the annual powerliftng and Police Olympics competitions.

SCHOLARSHIP

Chairman: Kevin Atkins

The Scholarship Committee establishes criteria for association scholarships, reviews scholarship applications, and selects scholarship recipients.

TRAINING

Chairman:Captain Teena Gooding, University of South Carolina Div. of Law Enforcement and Safety

The Training Committee makes recommendations and coordinates training seminars for the association.

 

Each Standing Committee chairman shall provide reports of its activities, plans, goals or interest to the SCLEOA Executive Director, President and Board of Directors at least 24 hours prior to each board meeting and are asked to attend the meetings if you would like to offer input, suggestions or plans.
